“JAPAN-GO-ROUND is a series of rural landscapes which do not look like Japan. While I work as an advertising agency account executive in Tokyo, I travel around Japanese local areas as a photographer on weekends.
Basically, the destinations of my journeys are not famous sightseeing spots. It is where few people visit but where I can feel local people enjoy “rich living”. There, I photograph the foreign to me. I have been working on this project since 2013 summer. As a Tokyo resident, I have to get on crowded trains almost everyday. Therefore, I’ve been thinking why population is so concentrated only in Tokyo. As an employee at the ad agency, I have to pursue sales and profits as effectively as possible.
Therefore, I’ve been thinking why only effectiveness is so important. In other words, city life is convenient and profitable for sure, but it might not be rich, at least for me. I am trying to find out what is “rich living” for human being. Working on “JAPAN-GOROUND” is its process. So far, I’ve found out that Tokyo is not the only place to get an extraordinary experience in Japan. There are many rural areas worth visit, but most of its settlements are aging and going to disappear. Publishing “JAPAN-GO-ROUND” is what I can do for those areas at the moment.”
