Po Valley: thirty years after Luigi Ghirri
I don’t pretend to remake the famous shootings by Luigi Ghirri: they were born from his unique ideas and from his sensibility. Nontheless I live and travel through the places he shot 30 years ago so it was surprizing for me to discover how they changed and how some of them remained perfectly the same.
That old restaurant along the Via Emilia is now an empty square covered with grass; on the other side, the ancient portal in Bagnolo San Vito is still there, its beauty unchanged. The cemetery by Aldo Rossi in Modena is finally complete and one could not admire it from the proper distance; the churches of Brescello and Villanova seem frozen while time is passing by.
The pictures from Ghirri show a wide love for his country and are a precise documentation of a changing territory. I’d like to continue this work of endless testimony with my project.
