Rohingya

Rohingya is a photographic project covering the aftermath of one of the great refugee crisis of our time. The Rohingya people are victims of an ongoing genocide in Burma and are the essentially “stateless” in the 21st century. They subsist without an official national identity and are forced to live without access to education, jobs and healthcare in far away places.

These photographs combine official head-shots of Rohingya children made for the purpose of refugee documentation with raw drawings these children made. The tension between the official visual narrative and the interior life of a refugee child is at the core of this project.
