Elegy of Unsung Nights by Debanjan Biswas.
This a very personal work. I was going through a real tough time physically and mentally for a while. Being unable to sleep at night I often wandered in the city late at night just with my cellphone. This nocturnal journey soon became addictive, the solitude and delirium that imbues the night made a great impression on me. I was fascinated by the surreal wilderness of night. I tried to build this work on those experiences. I tried to take pictures resonate with those emotions, a sense of depression, disappointment and decay. I recollected those scattered images and have tried to shape in a visual diary.
Hence, Elegy of unsung nights is not an objective story, rather its a amalgamation of some personal memoirs and silent exploration of darkness of the city.
I am a photographer born and raised in Kolkata. I don’t have any formal education in the medium. Being unable to sleep at night for a prolong time, I gradually started to explore darkness, desolation. That’s how my encounter with photography happened. I completed my graduation from Calcutta University. My areas of interests are abandonment, desolation and death .My works has been published in magazines and got exhibited in galleries.
